Free Childcare for Students

The District is committed to providing free high-quality, early education and care to our students.

Thank you for your interest in applying for the West Valley-Mission Community College District Child Development Centers. The District is committed to providing high-quality, early education to our current students. The District’s goal is to provide free childcare to eligible students, support student success, and remove financial barriers to education.

Updated Free Childcare Criteria – Spring 2024 Semester

A family is defined as a parent and child(ren), or both parents and child(ren) if the parents are married. If you live with your parents, friends, or relatives, their salaries are not considered family income.

  • Family income shall be less than $168,500 annually
  • Student shall enroll in at least nine (9) units with an Ed Plan*
  • Students shall maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA
  • Non-Credit students shall enroll in at least 9 hours per week with an Ed Plan*
  • District employees and their children are not eligible for the program.

* Students taking less than nine units will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The District retains the sole discretion to make the final determination of qualification for the free childcare program based on the above criteria and other factors.

Enrollment Priority
  1. Siblings of existing students who already qualify for free childcare.
  2. Students who qualify for Title 5 childcare tuition assistance.
  3. Active military students.
  4. Students who are close to completing a degree and certificate.
  5. Students with a higher course loads.

The District has two Child Development Centers. The West Valley College CDC serves children 2 to 6 years old. The Mission College CDC serves children 6 weeks to 6 years old. We provide consistent full-time and part-time care Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. To be considered for free childcare, please return the following items listed below by the deadline.

Required Documents

Complete and sign all forms and obtain copies of the following documents:

  • West Valley-Mission Child Development Center Lab Schools Application.
  • Income Worksheet.
  • Class schedule.
  • Child’s birth certificate.
  • Family’s income for the past 30 days – paycheck stubs reflecting 30 days of income.
  • Current Tax Returns Summary Page
  • Court Orders (if they affect the child in childcare).
  • If applicable - Child’s Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individual Education Program (IEP).

Please return all completed forms and documents to your site’s Director or Program Specialist. Return all paper copies together – or scan and send via email. Once the packet is received, the Director or Program Specialist will determine if you are eligible for free childcare. If you are eligible, you will be contacted within 5 business days.

Tuition Schedule and Fees 2023-2024 (effective August 28, 2023)

Current Hours of Operation:  Monday – Friday;  8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Please note:  Tuition fees are based on annual tuition and are paid in twelve equal payment installments.

To ensure full participation in our classroom programs, we ask that

Children arrive to school by 9:30 a.m. each day.

Additional Tuition Information

  • Tuition is due on the first of the month - late if received after the fifth of the month
  • Please make checks payable to: West Valley OR  Mission College CDC
  • We require a 15 day written/email notice for withdrawal from the program
  • Parents will be given a 30 day notice if a tuition increase is instituted

*Late pick up fees will be emailed to you within 24 hours of infraction and are due within 72 hours of infraction

 

*After 6:00 PM, if we are unable to contact parents or alternate contacts listed on your emergency card, we are required by California State Licensing to contact Child Protective Service and the Campus Police Department.
