Exploring the UC System

UC campuses span from Davis in the north to San Diego in the south. The UC About Us page includes lots of helpful information to help students learn more about the UC system. Check it out and see if transfer to UC might be right for you!

Choose a UC Campus

Choosing your transfer campus as early as possible can be helpful. There are lots of great tools to help you explore the UC system and determine if transfer to UC is the right choice.

Minimum UC Admissions Requirements

In order to qualify as an upper-division (junior-level) transfer to UC, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete 60.0 units of UC transferable coursework;
  • Of the 60.0 transferable units, no more than 14.0 units may be taken for Pass/No Pass grades;
  • Earn a minimum 2.40 GPA in all UC transferable coursework (2.80 for CA non-residents);
  • Complete the following general education requirements with a grade of "C" or better in each course;
    • Two transferable college courses in English composition;
    • One transferable college course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning;
    • Four transferable courses chosen from at least two of the following subject areas:
      • Arts and humanities
      • Social and behavioral sciences
      • Physical and biological sciences
    • Be in good standing and eligible to reenroll at the college you attend prior to transfer.

While these are the minimum admissions requirements, almost all campuses and majors have additional selection requirements that must be met.

What is Selection?

Selective majors receive applications from more students than the UC campus can accept.  When campuses have selective majors, they may use additional admissions requirements beyond the minimum UC admission requirements. Examples are:

  • Higher GPA requirements.
  • Required completion of specific major classes.
  • GPA minimum requirements for specific major courses.

Selection criteria can be found on campus websites or on ASSIST and can change from year to year. So it's important to stay up to date.

Students are encouraged to meet with a Mission College counselor to confirm selection criteria, plan the right classes, and create the most competitive application you can!

How to Complete the UC Transfer Admissions Planner (TAP)

Create a UC Transfer Admission Planner (TAP) account to track your progress in meeting the UC minimum admissions criteria. Learn more about TAP.

Comprehensive Review Factors

In addition to the Minimum Admissions Requirements and Selection Criteria, when a UC campus receives applications from more prospective transfer students than they can admit, they draw on nine additional criteria. This process is called comprehensive review.

Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)

The UC offers a TAG program which guarantees admission to the university and in most cases, the major to which you apply. Six UC campuses participate in the TAG program with all CA Community Colleges. Learn more about TAG.
